Do What Makes You Happy

We live in a strange world; especially this generation. Sin now has several modified names and phrases. One of them is “Do what makes you happy”. People now bathe themselves confidently in sin and pray for God’s grace to abound. God forbid it! (Romans 6:1-2) They convince themselves into believing that they are only doing what they have to do or what makes them happy. This is a guise to promote sinfulness. Robbers pray to God for successful robbery. People call on God while indulging in sexual immorality. Someone posts pictures and videos of indulgence in wild partying and right after that, shares Christian worship songs. People share half naked pictures, giving praise to God.  They worship God out of convenience as if they are just doing him a favor. God seems to be worshipped as an after-thought by these people. They acknowledge the existence of God but give him no regard.

Romans 1: 21 (Good News Translation)

They know God, but they did not give him the honor that belongs to him, nor do they thank him. Instead, their thoughts have become complete nonsense, and their empty minds are filled with darkness.

These people seem to live life on their own terms. They seem to forget that their lives are not really theirs but God’s. Christ died for you to live so you must live for Christ in return (Galatians 2:20). That’s the simple rule. And what this means is that you do not have to live life on your own terms. Rather, it is on God’s terms.

God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He will never lower his standards to suit any man. So civilization is immaterial to him. Stop trying to worship God by your own standards or innovations.

My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD (Isaiah 55:8 _NIV)

“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Mark 7:6_NIV)

He detests every act of indecency

“Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin or who worship idols or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people- none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 _ NLT)

When next you are told to do what makes you happy, the first question you should ask yourself is “Does it make God happy as well?” If your answer is no, then who is the source of that authority asking you to do whatever makes you happy? Is it God or the devil? Remember you cannot make them both happy at the same time. Each time you try to mix worldliness and godliness, you are also attempting to arouse the jealousy of God. He loves you jealously (Deuteronomy 5:9) and cannot share you with the devil. You have to choose him for life or choose the devil for destruction.

1 Corinthians 10: 21-22

“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s Table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?”

What makes a natural man happy is often in contradiction to God’s will. But a man who is spiritually conscious would do what makes him happy, yet in the right place with God. Be aware that the easiest way to destroy a man is by luring him with what makes him happy. So, do what makes you happy, but never without checking with God first if it is okay.
